We are looking to engage with the local community in advance of submitting a Scoping Report to the Energy Consents Unit (Scottish Government). This will enable people to find out more about the proposal and raise any questions or queries they may have. We will be hosting an online live presentation where viewers will be able to ask questions through the website and provide comments by filling out an online comment form.
Comments made to ILI Group are not formal representations. If we submit a planning application, there will be an opportunity to make formal representations on the application. A further, formal public event would also be held in advance of a planning application.

As the chair person of Dalwhinnie Community Council we are interested to know the full extent of disruption fir the village and particularly the are on the map, A889, station road through to Ben alder road as it seems to run straight through homes of Ben Alder Road in a field owned by a local estate, ardverikie?

Dalwhinnie is part of highland council not just Perth and Kinross, therefore will highland council also be consulted otherwise Dalwhinnie community council will not be included in planning applications or developments?

What will be the level of daily construction traffic be on the access track to the south, more so once the road has been upgraded and construction work is focused on the main head pond and tunnelling site.

What is the project
- Proposed 600MW Pumped Storage Hydro Facility
- Involves the creation of an upper headpond above Loch Ericht on land at Corrievarkie. Water would then be pumped from Loch Ericht into the new headpond and released back again via underground tunnels and an underground power cavern.
- Stores excess energy from the grid.
- Puts electricity back into the grid when required.
- This helps to balance supply and demand on the grid.
Who are ILI Group?

Why is it needed?
- Scotland has a Target of Net Zero by 2045
- Renewable energy is intermittent, This means we can’t rely on it to meet demand
- Fossil fuel generators coal gas and nuclear make up the difference
- As these go off line we need to be able to meet that demand
- Energy storage lets us store renewable energy for when it is needed
- National Grid ESO have estimated we need up to 37GW of energy storage by 2050
- The Scottish Energy Strategy, published 2018, supports new energy storage capacity. It states that the Scottish Government will continue to support innovation and deployment in storage and to work to accelerate its penetration across Scotland.
Why in this Location?
- This location has the very specific geographical characteristics for a project of this nature i.e a large existing waterbody (Loch Ericht), with higher ground close by to create an upper headpond with the necessary potential height difference.
Location Plan
- The new upper headpond would be on land at Corrievarkie, Ben Alder Estates
- There will be an inlet / outlet structure on the shore of Loch Ericht
- 2 access routes to the site are proposed
- The northern access would be used to bring in large equipment and machinery and we propose to create a jetty and barge them down Loch Ericht to the site location
- The southern route would be used for all other access.
Site Layout
- 50 Energy Storage Units
- New Planting (native broadleaves (trees and shrubs)
- 3m Wooden Fencing
- Track
- Substation Enclosure
- Stock fence
Energy Storage Units
- Batteries, inverters, transformers and control equipment will be housed in steel containers of 13 metres by 2.5 metres by 2.6 metres high.
- Solid state lithium batteries. would be used, as successfully employed on many other sites in the UK and worldwide.
Substation
- A small site substation is proposed to house Scottish Hydro switchgear, site switchgear, electricity metering and control equipment and health & safety equipment.
- This would be a prefabricated GRP building up to 10 metres by 6 metres by 3.2 metres high. The colour would be agreed with Inverclyde Council.
Fencing
- A 3m high wooden fence of 12kg/m2 would be built around the battery site.
- A 1.2m post and wire stock fence would be built outside of that
